At 6:00 a.m., Gaasperplaspark in Amsterdam is still quiet. No music, no lines at the entrance—just our team making the final preparations before the gates open. A few hours later, it’s almost unrecognizable as the same park: six stages up and running, thousands of visitors searching for their favorite artists, and an atmosphere that makes the Reggae Lake Festival one of the biggest reggae festivals in the Netherlands year after year. On Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, ISG Security, as we have done for many years now, provided security services during this two-day festival.
A festival you feel before you see it
You don’t just visit the Reggae Lake Festival—you step right into the heart of it. You can feel the bass from the main stage before you even see it, the atmosphere on the grounds is lively and warm, and the crowd is a mix of die-hard reggae fans and people who are simply looking for a carefree weekend. With six stages spread across Gaasperplaspark and an international lineup, the festival draws a large and enthusiastic crowd to Amsterdam Zuidoost every year.
For the organizers, this is a major logistical challenge. Two full days, thousands of visitors per day, multiple entrances and stages running simultaneously, and a venue that’s right next to a busy subway station where everyone heads at the same time at the end of the evening. It’s exactly the kind of job our team comes back to tackle with the same enthusiasm every year.
A large team, long days, and yet a favorite
There are assignments you take on because you have to, and there are assignments you look forward to. Reggae Lake falls into the latter category. Not because it’s easy—with a large team, long days, and constantly switching between stages, entrances, and the organization, this is far from an easy gig. But the scale, the teamwork, and the feeling that together you’re making a huge party happen—that’s exactly what draws our people back year after year.
Every shift begins with a concise briefing, during which we work with the organizers to identify areas that require extra attention. Afterward, the team spreads out across the grounds, from the entrances at the Gaasperplas metro station to the areas around the stages. Our staff know the venue, know each other, and know when a friendly chat is more effective than a stern look. At a festival like this, hospitality is just as important as safety—and the two are by no means mutually exclusive.
A weekend to be proud of
Both days went off without a hitch. Packed stages, crowded walkways leading to the subway at the end of the evening, and a venue buzzing with energy—yet the team remained on top of everything. The result: visitors who were able to carefree enjoy the music, the sun, and each other’s company—and who, looking back, will remember the atmosphere above all else, not the organizational details.
Every year, the Reggae Lake Festival demonstrates just how much goes into providing security for a large-scale event.
