On Saturday, September 12, Circoloco took place at the NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam, with the entire site filled to capacity for 15,000 visitors. For ISG Security, this wasn’t just any festival. It was thelast major event of the summer season and, at the same time, a recurring assignment for a client the company knows inside and out: SONA, for whom ISG Security has long served as the regular security partner.
Circoloco is no stranger to the dance music industry. The concept originated in 1999 as a Monday afterparty at Club DC10 in Ibiza and, over the course of more than twenty years, has grown into one of the most respected house and techno brands in the world, with events in cities such as Miami, New York, London, Paris, and Amsterdam. The brand is known for long, build-up-focused sets, an international crowd, and a lineup that looks beyond just the big names. At the NDSM shipyard—the venue for this edition for the third time—the party went on from noon until 11 p.m. on an industrial site by the water. Raw warehouses, open docks, and a crowd that comes to Amsterdam for precisely that combination of music and atmosphere that defines Circoloco worldwide.
For a security team, a venue like this requires more than just extra personnel on the floor. A former shipyard has a different layout than a typical festival grounds; the water is nearby, the transition between the halls and the outdoor area requires constant oversight, and an eleven-hour daily schedule means that attention must remain at the same level throughout the day. Especially in the late afternoon, when most visitors are inside and the atmosphere is at its peak, every second of response time counts.
That is exactly where our long-standing partnership with SONA makes a difference. Because ISG Security has provided security for this organization at multiple previous events, the team knows the target audience, the structure of the day, and the moments when extra vigilance is needed. That knowledge doesn’t come from a script, but from experience gained by working with the same organization and the same audience year after year. It streamlines communication with the organization, makes briefings clearer, ensures smoother coordination with SONA’s own staff, and enables a faster response to unexpected situations. The team knows which entrances require extra attention as soon as the lines get longer, how to best manage the flow of people toward the halls, and when that little bit of extra vigilance is needed to keep a crowded floor pleasant and safe for everyone.
The result was a day that went off safely for visitors, the organizers, and all parties involved—from the first guests arriving at the gate to the final sets of the evening. For ISG Security, Circoloco marks the culmination of a busy festival season, during which the company provided security for events such as Milkshake, Reggae Lake, and Keti Koti. Each of these events requires a slightly different approach, but the basic principle remains the same: knowing who’s coming, understanding the venue’s specific needs, and being fully prepared to meet those needs as a team.
With summer behind us, attention is now turning to Amsterdam Dance Event, which takes place this year from October 21 through 25 and is celebrating its 30th edition. SONA is once again on the schedule there with several programs during one of the world’s largest dance conferences, and ISG Security is once again the security partner for those events. The same approach that worked during Circoloco—a dedicated team that knows the organization and the audience—will be carried over to ADE.
This approach—in which a dedicated security partner supports an organization across multiple editions—is exactly what festival security at ISG Security is all about. If you’d like to learn more about how this works in practice, please read on to the page about festival security.
