ISG Security is proud to announce that it will provide security for the popular Kwaku Summer Festival for the tenth time, taking place from July 13 to August 4, 2024, in Amsterdam Southeast.
Kwakoe began in 1975 as a small-scale football tournament among the high-rise buildings of Bijlmermeer. The initial organizers, Chas Warning, Roy Groenberg (alias Kaikusi), Guno Bakboord, and Emile Esajas, patriarch of the famous “Esa Boys,” wanted to provide a pleasant summer for the youth who couldn’t go on vacation. The name of the tournament quickly spread beyond the city limits through the “mofokorantie.” Football teams from all over the Netherlands traveled to the Vogeltjeswei in Bijlmer not only to enjoy the often thrilling competition but also to meet each other over bami, blood sausage, and fladder. A lively trade in food and drink emerged from the trunks of parked cars there. Kwakoe has since become a household name.
Under the inspiring leadership of Winston Kout, Kwakoe grew in the 90s into the current mega event that is now an unmissable part of the annual festival calendar.
The Kwakoe Festival now offers much more than just football as entertainment; the event features a wide range of activities: music performances, sports, food, beauty pageants, a literary prize award, debates, and lectures. But there is a constant: the famous Kwakoe atmosphere. This atmosphere sustains the Kwakoe Festival regardless of the increase in the number of festivals, negative publicity, or bad weather.
The Kwaku Summer Festival is a grand celebration of cultural diversity and identity in the Southeast district, with culture, sports, and food as its main expressions, and broad (social) participation and Surinamese origin as its main pillars.
